Meet Me On Peacock Lane
Meet Me On Peacock Lane
If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good Christmas song. I’m hoping to provide three of those in these next three weeks before Christmas, and here is the first. Peacock Lane is one of those Portland originals that just keeps growing larger in legend -- when I was a kid, visiting Peacock Lane during the holidays was a fun thing to do, but not nearly as popular as it is now. Now, the street itself is a must-see Portland holiday event. This week’s song, “Meet Me On Peacock Lane,” imagines a person who is missing his loved one during the holiday season, and longing to rekindle their romance where it began: you guessed it, on Peacock Lane. Enjoy! And don’t forget to take yourself by Peacock Lane this Christmas season: it is available for viewing between December 15 and 31.
Lyrics:
This Christmas I just can’t find my smile.
Decorations are up, but I’ve been sad for a while.
The streets are lit with joy and cheer,
But something just isn’t right this year --
I’ve missed you, please come back to me.
I hope you know that I love you.
I can go through the motions -- I still don’t feel jolly,
But there’s one thing you do:
I can put up the tree, ring silver bells,
Share a candy cane.
But for this to be a Merry Christmas,
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
I’ll never forget the way we met:
Southeast Portland, who could forget?
It was just about this time last year,
You smiled at me and I drew near.
But now you’re gone, Portland is lonely --
I don’t know what to say.
Please tell me you’ll come back to your one and only
And make it a happy holiday.
I can put up the tree, ring silver bells,
Share a candy cane.
But for this to be a Merry Christmas,
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
I can put up the tree, ring silver bells,
Share a candy cane.
But for this to be a Merry Christmas,
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
I can put up the tree, ring silver bells,
Share a candy cane.
But for this to be a Merry Christmas,
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
Meet me on Peacock Lane.
