Farewell Cirque Du Soleil
Farewell Cirque Du Soleil
Yet another song, this week, prompted by my four-year-old son Liam. We were lucky enough to go see Cirque du Soleil's show “Corteo” while it was in Portland in March (it closes on April 13), and needless to say both Liam and my two-year-old-son Graham were totally taken with the circus. (As am I -- I think I love it every bit as much if not more than they do!) In any case, ever since we saw it Liam has been telling me I should write a song about it.
So “Farewell Cirque Du Soleil” is a tribute to the company that has come to Portland repeatedly, lighting up the south-of-Marquam waterfront with its colorful blue and yellow tents. If you drive over the Marquam Bridge while Cirque is in town, you can't miss it.
So we'll miss you, Cirque du Soleil -- come back to Portland any time!
Lyrics:
Farewell Cirque du Soleil,
We hope you'll come back and see us someday.
Farewell Cirque du Soleil,
You've left Portland enchanté.
But “Farewell Cirque du Soleil,”
To you is what we must say.
So it's farewell Cirque du Soleil.
Vous etes une merveille.
“Corteo” was magic and funny and tragic,
And left us wanting more.
So please bring back your circus, delight us and perk us
With things we've never seen before.
Oh, farewell Cirque du Soleil,
We'll miss the tents perching under the freeway.
Farewell Cirque du Soleil,
Portland wants you to come back and play.
(Come and play!)
Your acrobats go flying, while your clowns are funny dying,
And your trapezists swing high on a chandelier.
With tight ropes and hula hoops and trampolines and music groups,
We just can't wait another year!
But farewell Cirque du Soleil,
Portland's rendez vous with you has been such a soirée.
But now it's time for us to say: “Au revoir, enchanté,
Cirque du Soleil.”
