Portland Mothers
Portland Mothers
We’ve all seen them--the mothers with their children in a sling who manage to be Portland cool and Mom savvy at the same time. So, on this Mother’s Day, here’s a little tribute to Portland’s maternal set. And although this song might seem to lean toward younger moms, let’s not forget we also have the coolest middle aged and older women of any city around. Happy Mother’s Day, all! And here’s a little tribute, “Portland Mothers.”
The picture above is of my favorite Portland Mother being hip with her children on MAX. Here’s to you, Jennifer!
Lyrics:
If you see them walking down the street--
The hippest women that you’ll ever meet--
You know they walk to a different beat.
Hmm, oh yeah.
A child on the back, and a child on the hip,
Out for an exercising trip,
But no one gives her any lip.
Hmm, oh yeah.
Oh they’re so sassy and so proud,
They stand out in any crowd.
So say it once, and say it loud:
By them P-Town is always wowed.
Portland Mothers, you’re the best!
You stand out above all the rest.
Forget about Clinton or Obama--
I’ll always vote for a Portland Mama.
You can see them at Powell’s or Pioneer Square,
At La Leche League or changing a spare.
They can do anything just about anywhere.
Hmm, oh yeah.
Either family *or* career? Oh no, oh no:
By night she’s a high-powered CEO,
By evening she’s reading “Go, Dog, Go.”
Hmm, oh yeah.
It doesn’t matter if they’re young or old,
Our Portland mothers are as good as gold.
It’s sad to say, but it must be told:
Mothers elsewhere just aren’t so bold.
Portland Mothers, you’re the best!
You stand out above all the rest.
Take a look at portlandmetromoms.com
And you’ll know why we love a Portland Mom!
It’s fitting, then, on Mother’s Day
To express something that we all should say:
Our mothers rock the house down in Portland-way.
Hmm, oh yeah.
So if you’re looking for The Second Sex,
Don’t look for long, don’t be perplexed:
They’re here and they’re strong in PDX.
Hmm, oh yeah.
Well, if you tried to give me others,
Man, I’d tell you the truth, my brother:
I wouldn’t settle for another.
How could I leave behind these mothers?
Portland Mothers, you’re the best!
You stand out above all the rest.
I wouldn’t be here if this fact weren’t true:
Every man in Stumptown is a son of a you!
